In Finnish folklore Eagle owls were believed to bring misfortune. They were a powerful symbol of death, called as "escort birds" who would take the souls of dying people with them. Spotted near a house, it was believed that house was going to host a funeral soon or at least a terrible accident was about to happen. Even hearing its call promised tragedy.
